Quick Iqaluit Tour

The last day of my Iqaluit visit was comprised of a driving tour and some shopping - I was very excited to get balsamic vinegar, specialty chocolate and some warm mittens. It obviously doesn't take much to make me happy! I took a couple pictures to share:
Here is a picture of one of the schools (the white building on the left) - I thought it looked like...an odd Lego piece? I'm not sure what I thought, but it looks different than any other building I've seen before. The building on the right that looks like an igloo is a church that was renovated and rebuilt.
This was up on the hill on the outskirts of town; I was more interested in wondering what happened to the pole that's bent completely over. What does that??
The view from the land is inspirational - it's amazing that a few minutes from town, you can look out as far as the eye can see and it's untouched and beautiful.
In town, I saw my first ever iceberg - albeit a very small one, it makes me realize that winter it here to stay.
Lastly, I got to have lunch at The Snack, which is a fast food place that I'd heard about before we moved North and it was my mission to try a famous poutine before I left. The Snack is open until 8pm, but offers 24 hour delivery so I can imagine it's a great option after a night of partying.  So...yes, I got to try poutine, but the ever-present high prices of Nunavut still hit me in the face with shock. Here's what $30 gets you:
A can of pop, 6 (unfortunately overcooked) wings, and a small poutine. The Snack is run by a family from Quebec, so the poutine was good - but at over $10 it still hurt. Took care of my grease fix for a while though!

I have to say, as nice as it was to not have to worry about cooking and enjoying eating out, by the end of the week I was ready to go home to my kitchen to cook my own food. It was a relief to come home and know exactly what was in everything I'm eating.

Now...if only our trip home didn't go as awry as it did. I'll tell you all about that next time!
