Daylight Savings

The changing of the clocks have really been messing with me - I get so confused when I look up from my desk at work and realize that the sun is starting to set around 3:30 in the afternoon now, and it's pitch black by the time we pack up to go home.

I guess it shouldn't be a huge bother because we get into work in the dark - it's been dark as the middle of the night when Jeff goes to the airport in the morning - and we leave when it's dark. At least it's usually pretty bright out when it's time to go home for lunch. Have to find the small things.

We've been taking vitamin D in the mornings with our breakfast and this week I started doubling our dosage to combat the time change. So far I'm not sure it's really doing anything, but I figure it's not hurting us so we'll keep taking it.

Last week we got an email at work from one of our most northern locations (Grise Ford for those who'd like to look on a map) that said that the sun had set and wasn't expected to rise again until the middle of February.

February.
As in 1/4 of the year away, February.

Eek! I don't think I could do it. I'd be 1) so listless no matter how much vitamin D was coursing through me and 2) I'd be constantly terrified of zombies and vampires. And sea monsters. And werewolves. And ghosts. And spiders...big, people-eating spiders!! :( (What? Don't judge. That's perfectly normal!!)

Thankfully Baker Lake has long nights, yes, but we don't go completely dark. I think on the shortest days we have about 4 hours of light, so at least it's better than none at all.

That's really good, because I would miss seeing beautiful views such as this:
Or this:

And definitely this:

I guess I just wanted to say that I'm glad we still get daylight, even though it may be later in the day and only for a short while - but it's too pretty to not have at all. (...plus it keeps the vampires away)

  1. Got to watch out for those vampires! Make sure you get lots of Vitamin C too!

  2. That picture of the rising sun reminds me of the diamond which I was supposed to find at the Jericho mine ...just didn't have enough courage to tell Julie Lassond that I could have been valuable asset and make that dream reality...I'd love to be where you are...
